Highlights of 2009 Events Harvest Potluck & Square Dance Pete Laberge and the Cackling Hens and Roosters Too led farm members in our annual square dance. Dancers ranged in age from less than one year old (okay, they were being held) to over 84! It was a footstomping good time. Hoots and Hellmouth Hoots and Hellmouth gave a great concert as part of their Harvest Farm Tour. It was a foot stomping celebration of local food local music and community. Thank you Hoots & Hellmouth!!! July 3, 2009 6:30pm Potluck Supper & Farm Pizzas We started off the holiday weekend with the first farm potluck on Friday, July 3rd at 6:30pm and made the first farm pizzas in the new cob oven! We had lots of pizza makers and then we ate some blueberry ice cream made with our own blueberries. June 6 & 7, 10am to 4 pm Cob Oven Workshop Many of you who came to the farm last week may have noticed the new brick patio and big pile of dirt near the sandbox. The patio will be the home of the Farm's new wood-fired bread and pizza oven, and this weekend we will use the big pile of dirt to build it! Those of you who have sampled Donald Andersen's bread at Farm events, will understand why we are building an oven for Farm members. Cara Graver, local potter, nutritional consultant and expert in cob construction, will help us build our the oven. The process is easy and lots of fun. Helpers will mix mud and sand with their toes - a little like old fashioned wine-making. We'll pat the mud on a sand form to shape the oven. We welcome helpers young and old to participate in this project and you can come for as long or short a time as you like. We will make a big farm salad at lunch each day and have cold drinks as well. We'll probably grill some pasture-raised meats too. If you plan to spend the day at the workshop, we welcome any potluck items you would like to share. If you are considering making your own oven, this workshop will provide you with some hands-on experience. Once the oven is finished, we plan to fire it up for pizza and movie nights and bread making workshops later in the season.
Joel Salatin, a nationally recognized pioneer in the grass-based farming movement and featured farmer in The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, presented two well-attended workshops. Sponsored by: |
